A little confused by RSS?

Filed under: RSS — James @ 1:34 pm

While my last post broke down what an RSS feed is and looks like, most of us don’t really care about the syntax or issues of RSS feeds.   Which is fine.  RSS is a background technology that is very important for online collaboration and sharing of content but not every user of blogs needs to know the inner workings of RSS and xml.

I found an interesting article from the LibrarianinBlack (Textcasting: the new revolution) which talks about how her non techie friends could define podcasting but not rss even though podcasting requires rss to work.

Her comment that RSS suffers from poor naming is another good reason for lack of understanding and awareness about RSS.

What is important is that one knows that content from blogs, wiki’s and most other social technologies produce feeds to distribute content.
